Recently the growth of Brave has been super high with 14.7 M Daily users & 130% growth. The main reason is Their Marketing. Users have become very sensitive about data & privacy these days. But is this true? Is brave really safe and privacy-centric? Letā€™s find out in this thread.

Start of Brave Browser

Brave was co-founded by Brendan Eich, creator of JavaScript and co-founder of Mozilla (Firefox), and Brian Bondy, formerly of Khan Academy and Mozilla.

Now you may donā€™t know him but he is a very controversial personality. Why? read this by @WIRED https://www.wired.com/2014/04/brendan-eichs-downfall/

I remember those days, I had this 512MB ram & 4GB ROM smartphone. Brave used to give some money for surfing, as a kid then it was a big deal, right? It still has this feature, you can see ads & they will give you 70% of the revenue they earn. Read for more https://www.wired.com/story/brave-browser-will-pay-surf-web/

Here starts the main thing: How are they doing it? Why give money for free? On an official note, they say they earn via affiliate ad programs where they partner with different sites to let the users show some specific ads.

But in reality, they got caught doing something real bad

The other day my friend @mudrankgupta shared a SS how it is taking too much memory and CPU. For a browser itā€™s too much.

Brave have faced many backlashes when they got injecting referral code on crypto trading sites First they denied but after they apologised in public Read here https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/06/07/brave-browser-caught-adding-its-own-referral-codes-to-some-cryptcurrency-trading-sites/

Brave was always a Hot topic on some subReddits & groups because few researchers found it was using userā€™s machines to mine Crypto which could be an issue why @mudrankgupta and other users saw a spike in ram & CPU usage.

Earlier they were caught collecting donations on behalf of content creators, Inserting referrals & the so-called Privacy-focused browser was caught sending DNS requests to ISP instead of routing it through the TOR network, allowing ISPs to have of userā€™s browsing session.

I donā€™t want to make this article boring so ending it here. After reading all this I hope you got some insights. Now Itā€™s on you what you want to use I prefer Edge in Windows and Safari for mac, and of course, Chrome. For ad-block and all, use extensions and youā€™re good to go.
