Digital Education or Mass Surveillance ? 🤔

So the UP govt. recently launched a Program to give FREE smartphones and tablets of budget 3000 Crore. Here are my 2 cents on this.

The program is for undergraduates and diploma students to give them some financial support, so those who can’t afford can have some access to the internet and technology. Basically, it is to promote online digital learning and I really liked this initiative.

But as always everyone started exploiting and taking advantage of it, As you can see in this SS below they’re selling on OLX

Anyways what I felt exciting is that how UP-DESCO is working on this, they have partnered with Samsung as far as I have read in a few online sources and they have blocked some features & added some — locked wallpapers ringtones (which other parties also do for promotion publicity)

The main thing here is, taking full control of it from changing ringtone to personal file & data, as you know data is the NEW oil, ofc they can use all data to run targeted ads for the next election campaigns even manipulating media is also possible + breaching someone’s PRIVACY.

IMO the initiative is good but not giving control of privacy is BAD, ILLEGAL & IMMORAL and this is like MASS SURVEILLANCE and please NO POLITICAL SHIT HERE.

I would really like to see @internetfreedom doing an investigation on it and let me know what are your views on this.
